British Tamils Forum (BTF) Meet Indian Political Leadership in India
A delegation from British Tamils Forum (BTF) met with dignitaries in India to apprise them of the plight of Tamil people in Sri Lanka and to urge them to support the call for an Independent International Investigation into the conduct of the genocidal war. Following on from the recent meeting in London, of senior BTF members with Bhathiya Janatha Party (BJP) delegation, headed by Nitin Gadkari the president of BJP, the BTF delegation visited India on invitation. The delegation met several key political leaders, representatives of human rights organisations, religious leaders, the Indian media and senior political advisors, in various states including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Delhi.

For completely different reasons, and in completely different ways, you could say that the Maoists and the Jan Lokpal Bill have one thing in common — they both seek the overthrow of the Indian State. One working from the bottom up, by means of an armed struggle, waged by a largely adivasi army, made up of the poorest of the poor. The other, from the top down, by means of a bloodless Gandhian coup, led by a freshly minted saint, and an army of largely urban, and certainly better off people. (In this one, the Government collaborates by doing everything it possibly can to overthrow itself.) In April 2011, a few days into Anna Hazare’s first “fast unto death,” searching for some way of distracting attention from the massive corruption scams which had battered its credibility, the Government invited Team Anna, the brand name chosen by this “civil society” group, to be part of a joint drafting committee for a new anti-corruption law. A few months down the line it abandoned that effort and tabled its own bill in Parliament, a bill so flawed that it was impossible to take seriously.

OTTAWA–Jack Layton, the New Democratic Party leader who led his party to Official Opposition status in this year’s federal election, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 61. “Your support and well wishes are so appreciated. Thank you,” Layton, posted to the social media site Twitter in July after announcing he was battling a new form of cancer. “I will fight this and beat it.” It ended up being the last public announcement he would make in his long political career, which saw him evolve from campus activist to rabble-rousing left-wing municipal councilor to the most electorally successful leader of the federal New Democrats in history. Layton had been on a leave of absence as party leader since July 25, when he temporarily stepped aside to fight a second — and evidently much more serious — bout of cancer. It is cliché to say that a politician has politics in his blood, and yet there are few politicians who embody it the way Layton did, with his family involvement in the life reaching all the way back to the birth of the country. There was his great-grand-uncle, William Henry Steeves, a bona fide father of Confederation from New Brunswick who also served as a founding member of the senate Layton has long wanted to abolish.

இலங்கைத் தமிழர் பிரச்சினை தொடர்பாக தமிழக சட்டப்பேரவையில் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்ட தீர்மானத்துக்கு உள்நோக்கம் கற்பிக்கும் வகையில், இலங்கை அரசின் பாதுகாப்புச் செயலர் கோட்டாபய ராஜபக்ஷ பேட்டியளித்திருப்பதாகவும், அதற்கு இந்திய அரசு கண்டனம் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் தமிழக முதலமைச்சர் ஜெயலலிதா வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளார். அதே நேரத்தில், இலங்கையில், சிங்கள மக்களுக்கு இணையாக தமிழ் மக்களுக்கும் சம உரிமை கிடைக்கும் வரை தனது அரசு ஓயாது என்றும் ஜெயலலிதா கருத்துத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இலங்கை தமிழர் விவகாரம் தொடர்பான தமிழக அரசின் தீர்மானத்தை அரசியல் உள்நோக்கம் என்று கூறிய இலங்கை பாதுகாப்பு செயலரை ந்தியா கண்டிக்க வேண்டும் என்கிறார் தமிழக முதல்வர்.
