Thu., Jul. 22 at 9:55 a.m.
Good morning, I am writing to bring your attention to the media advisory below. As you may know, Bill Blair, the federal Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, announced yesterday the next application period for the Communities at Risk: Security Infrastructure Program (SIP), which provides funding to support communities at risk of hate-motivated crimes. The SIP helps to reduce risk by funding renovations to religious and cultural organizations to enhance security in buildings and provide basic training for staff. You can find more information in yesterday’s news release: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-safety-canada/news/2021/07/government-of-canada-moving-forward-with-150-projects-to-protect-against-hate-motivated-crimes.html

Last year, the SIP recommended 150 projects for funding, which represents over $6 million. This year, the SIP will be providing another $8 million in funding to eligible organizations – including houses of worship, community centres, and schools – that apply between July 28 and September 22, 2021. Applications are open to all communities, although $2 million of this year’s funding has specifically been set aside to address anti-Asian hate-motivated crime.

Today, Minister Blair will be holding an engagement session at 2:30 p.m. EDT to provide media representing diverse communities with the opportunity to ask questions about the program. Media can ask questions by joining in the teleconference at the numbers in the advisory.
