A Note from our Publisher, Naeem “Nick” Noorani
  It’s
a very exciting time for the Canadian Immigrant: the successful relaunch of
this website is a true testament to the continued strength of our publication.
Now offering more information, resources and exclusive online content, along
with all the great stories you’ve come to expect from the Canadian Immigrant,
we’re well on our way to becoming the authoritative Canadian print and online
source for all immigrants. I can hardly believe it’s already four years since
we launched with our inaugural May 2004 issue of the Canadian Immigrant in
Vancouver. Today, I’m happy to report that we’re going stronger than ever in
Vancouver, have successfully passed the one-year mark with the Toronto edition
of the magazine and have seen our team thrive and grow. My dream of creating a
magazine for the immigrant audience has truly flourished.
The Canadian Immigrant continues to inspire the many immigrants who write to
us and meet us every day. On the streets, at community events and by phone and
email, they tell us that we have done what we set out to do — “inform, educate
and motivate.” We’ll continue to honour our mission and values with the new
canadianimmigrant.ca. With the website, we will have the opportunity to
feature stories of immigrants from cities other than Toronto and Vancouver —
immigrants who have made a difference in Canada and have contributed in no
small way to the communities they live and work in.
Our magazine and website will give you information on both new and
longstanding immigrant issues that truly matter, while providing inspiration
by sharing the success stories of immigrants, just like you, who have made a
great life for themselves and their families in Canada.

print magazine. There’s so much we can’t wait to share with you in the near

Our Publication’s Mission and Values
The mission of canadianimmigrant.ca is to be the world's number one online
destination for Canadian immigrants by helping them to settle in Canada
successfully as they move through their immigrant lifecycle.
Along with our website, the Canadian Immigrant magazine is a monthly
publication distributed nationally and based in Vancouver and Toronto. Our
publication appeals to all immigrants regardless of their origin. We value
inclusivity for all ethnic groups, sharing knowledge and providing inspiration
in a positive, proactive manner.
Our content is comprised of successful immigrant profiles; columns from
experts in fields such as banking, employment law and real estate; and stories
of personal triumph. Our mission is to inform, educate and motivate every
immigrant, whether they are planning to immigrate, are new to the country and
are going through the settlement process or are longstanding members of
Canada.
The Canadian Immigrant helps immigrants settle in Canada by providing
information, tools, resources and strategies for personal growth and success.

Canadian Immigrant: A Brief History
When we set about researching the concept for the magazine, our investigations
revealed some startling results. One of the most significant revelations was
that as immigrants leave their old role models behind, they need new positive
role models — role models who can motivate them as they are settling in
Canada.
Our research also showed that the information needs of immigrants are broadly
the same, irrespective of their ethnicity. The challenges that they face are
very similar regardless of their country of origin.
Information from Statistics Canada shows that it takes an immigrant an average
of 10 years to settle in Canada. We know that immigrants suffer from lack of
information. Could we in any way help that immigrant by providing information
in an accessible format? Could we speed up the process of “settling in”?
It became increasingly clear that immigrant settlement issues involved more
than just providing a brochure on how to get a Social Insurance Number cards
or open a bank account. There are broader information needs to be met.
That’s where our publication comes in: we have made it our goal to help cover
all the pertinent issues and challenges immigrants face, helping ease the
settlement and integration process
