About this Lec-Dem

Vasumathi Badrinathan would present a unique lec-dem on a not-so-common theme - Padams & Javalis. A cutcheri vocalist of good standing, a trained and experienced dancer of Bharata Natyam and a natural speaker, Vasumathi in the past has presented several lecture-demonstrations at various national and international forums on varied subjects like Music of the Mystics (Alwar Pasurams), Saga of the Raga, Desika, Spiritual dimensions in Indian Music, Concert Music Vs Music in Dance etc.In this lec-dem on Padams & Javalis, Vasumathi would trace the evolution of the Padam genre, their format, their themes, the spiritual interpretation, the relevance of Padams & Javalis towards dance, the music of Padams & Javalis. As part of the lec-dem, Vasumathi would also sing some select Padams & Javalis with demonstration of abhinaya to some of them.

Vasumathi has to her credit two exclusive albums on Padams - Tamil Padams - an exclusive collection of Padams in Tamil language and Nayika - an exclusive collection of Padams in Telugu language.
