V.N.Giritharan: Canadian Tamil Writer V.N.Giritharan's CornerMigration is a customary and acknowledged activity not only of animals and birds, but also of human beings. People move from one place to another for different purposes from the historical times. If the origin of the English Language is examined, the reason would be the migration of the people who were living around the Black sea towards Western and Eastern directions by around 3000 BC. The movement formed the Indo-European family of Languages from which the English Language evolved. Roughly speaking, the term ‘Diaspora’ is a synonym to the term ‘migration’....enter

My Stories - V.N.Giritharan -Translation By: Latha Ramakrishnan : Based on my own experiences as a migrant and at the same time having the plight and problems of my country as the focal points my writings have taken shape. As regards my Tamil writings of today that has left its soil and survive in an alien land, it leads a life in a world that hangs suspended, struggling to come to terms with life in between the strange climate of the land that has given them shelter and the memories of their motherland...Read More

America!
 -V.N.Giritharan -
Translation By: Latha Ramakrishnan
A part of the world famous for THE New York City. The fifth floor of the building that once stood at a corner of Brooklyn.  I don’t know how many floors there are.  All that I know is that I am in the fifth floor of the structure.  That’s all.  And, to me this fifth floor is, as far as America is concerned, another world.  Fashionable hair-dos and fragrant flowersA part of the world famous for THE New York City. New Tamil Writer -  S.Ganesalingan -  Translation By: Latha Ramakrishnan : Epics were being written in the poetic form itself. At the same time verses that lacked the essential rhyme and rhythm were also being written in the magazines. Right from the period of Sangam literature these trends could be seen. This remained the profession as well as the heart's content of the poet's clan. But, listening to the tales continued to be the prime interest of the general public. From old to young, people loved tales...Read More

Thoughts on Tamil Literature..

V.N.Giritharan: Canadian Tamil Writer V.N.Giritharan's CornerFor me there is no difference between writers from Tamilnadu or from Singapore or from Malaysia or from Sri Lanka. We all belong to one family: Tamil writers family.Tamil writers living in many different parts of the world should feel united. For instance, in Tamilnadu various Tamil writers from various parts write different Tamil; they speak different Tamil.Speaking differently or writing differently doesn't mean they are different. They all belong to the same Tamil writers family. Sri Lankan Tamil literature or 'Pulampeyarnthor Literature' or Singapore Tamil Literature or Malaysian Tamil Literature or Tamilnadu Tamil Literature all should be considered as part of the same Tamil Literature.

Contradictions always exist. They shouldn't be antagonistic, instead they should be friendly. There is a need for a serious literature. There is a need for a children literature. There is a need for magazines like kanaiyazhi or kalachchuvadu. At the same time for 'pamara makkal' there is a need for a news paper like Thinath thanthi or magazine like Ranee. There is a need for 'Ampulimama' or Kokulam for kids.

If we understood this, there won't be any fighting among various literary groups. The purpose of the literature is for various reasons. It can be a guide; it can be an entertainment;..... it can be useful in various ways. For instance, during my past life, at various stages I was influenced by various writers and writings due to my age and my knowledge. Going through these different stages are necessarry for the growth. As a child no one expected me to read Kafka. I had to reach certain level before I understood Kafka.

For me , all these different '...isms' in literature are important and necessary for various reasons. Fighting against each literary concept is not a positive thing to do. -V.N.Giritharan-
